Dr. Mario J. Garcia is a non-invasive cardiologist, recognized as a leader in the development and clinical implementation of advanced noninvasive cardiac diagnostic technology.
Dr. Garcia attended Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena in Santo Domingo, where he earned his doctorate in medicine. He completed his training in internal medicine, cardiology, and cardiovascular imaging at St. Vincent’s Medical Center (Bridgeport, CT), the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Garcia joined the Albert Einstein College of Medicine – Montefiore Medical Center as Chief of the Division of Cardiology in 2010. He holds the Pauline Levitt Endowed Chair in Medicine and is Professor of Radiology and Co-Director of the Montefiore-Einstein Center for Heart and Vascular Care.
Dr. Garcia’s research has focused on the validation of non-invasive imaging for the study of cardiac structure and function. Dr. Garcia was one of the pioneers in the adaptation of multi-detector CT technology for coronary imaging. Dr. Garcia’s research has been supported by extramural funding from the National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Department of Defense (DOD), the American Society of Echocardiography, the NHLBIH and the American Heart Association.
Throughout his career, Dr. Garcia has participated as a speaker and program director of major educational programs sponsored by the ACC, AHA, ASE, ASNC and many other national and international organizations. Dr. Garcia is the author or co-author of several books, book chapters and over 250 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Garcia is a past member of the Boards of Directors of ASNC, ASE and SCCT. Dr. Garcia is a member of the National Board of Echocardiography Exam Committee and the Chair of the ABIM Cardiovascular Exam committee.
